Hi: I am 68 years old, and had to take Air Force ROTC when in college to get a deferment, or be drafted for the Korean War. The Air Force sent me for another year to University to become a Weather Forecaster, and then to England for active duty.

I refused a security clearance while in England, because I didn't want to be briefing B-52 pilots who were carrying nuclear weapons about the weather at assigned targets in the Soviet Union. Ultimately, I was kicked out of the Air Force with a General Discharge.

My college degree is in Chemistry and Mathematics, and I have worked with computers and electronics since I got out of the Air Force. But I have refused to use my talents in any way to create any military weapons. I feel that a scientist who creates tools for the military is morally equivalent to an adult that when he sees kids fighting would give them knives.

Yes, this stand has made me turn down some job offers; but I would do it again in a heart beat. I take comfort in knowing that I have not helped create: land mines, nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons.

I wish you the best, and wish there were more like you who think for themselves, and take responsibility for their actions.

Cheers, LaFarr
