To not offend the Dutch, I should admit, I have adulterated and simplified.
Using Google, I found maybe a more authentic recipe it's about ¼ way down.
| Potatoes | 3 lbs. peel, cut into walnut sized pieces |
| Carrots | 2 lbs. peel, cut into walnut sized pieces |
| Onions | 1 lbs. peel, slice, quarter |
| Salt | 1 or 2 teaspoons, depending on taste |
| Meat | About ½ pound of smoked sausage |
| Water | ½ cup. I put a pealed bulb of Garlic in a blender with the water. |
| But, no Dutchman would ever do that! |
Layer potatoes bottom, carrots above, then onions.
Put the meat on the top. Steam in covered pot until onions soft, (maybe 35 minute). Remove the meat then and with wire potato masher mash into pea size chunks. Should be about the texture of apple sauce.
Serve on a plate with a portion of the meat. If I haven't used enough meat I sprinkle the top with any grated cheese.
Don't eat it all at one time, freeze some, I thaw the frozen in Campbell's soup. Makes a real rich soup!
