I am still having problems with Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

First. The little ASUS has a little 10.5 inch screen, with is small but
still big enough so the keyboard works OK for touch typing. In
general it is one of the best small computers--I love it. For more
information about it and the company I bought it from I have a link near
the bottom of
a page about the computers I have owned.
Windows 7 for general use is a pain compared to Apple's OS
Is it better than Vista 64-bit? Anything is bette than that!
Here is a list of problems I have encountered with Win-7
- For apparently no reason at all while using Internet Explorer it
will come up with a message that the browser has quite working. It is
very important you cancel this message with its close button. If you
do anything else expect to loose everything.
Usually it is still working.???? Microsoft is in such a confused
mess I don't think they have any idea why it occurs or how to fix it.
- The first time you turn it on you better have either no internet
connection or a very high speed connection. I had a DSL
connection. After a reasonably long series of agreeing to a painful
list of EULA's (End User Licensing Agreements) you might get something
you think you can live with; but when you turn it off, you will be
greeted with a message saying not to turn it off. Because:
It is installing
Updates. In my case it was 1 of 24! Expect to get such messages
every time you turn it off for at least two weeks. This appears to be
a Microsoft feature it is still happening.
- Almost everything has changed enough expect to be confused and lost
for a while. Things won't be quite as bad if you have experience
fighting VISTA.
- Worst and what caused me to create this page: Microsoft is going to
force you to have
Bing
as your default search engine.
Come hell or high water. I have not been able to get around this, and I
spent at least 2 hours trying; and another couple hours Googling on such
things as "hate bing", "kill bing", "stop bing", "bing sucks". I read
several blogs; but it seems no one knows a simple way around this.
- Every time I turn it on I have problems getting it to recognize my
WiFi. I expect this is a problem with either Win-7 or Interned
Explorer Version 8, which I could write another "hate" page about.
Although it could be something in the ASUS computer? All I know is:
Nothing like this ever happens with my Mac mini which has never been
connected to the internet except wirelessly.
- There is more, but I better cool down before I write more.
I am so pissed off at Microsoft I intend to boycott every company I
can find that advertises on
Bing.
And I hope you will do the
same. This is why I even have links to Bing on this page.
Thank God the ASUS came with the 32-bit version of Win-7
Almost all Windows applications will run on the 32-bit operating
system, including my 16-bit DOS programs--which I am using to create
this web page. But unlike Windows ME and previous versions, I cannot
copy from the clip board to a 16-bit program. Since Windows Me I
have had to open the page using Notebook, then copy from the clip-board
to Notebook, then save it; and re-open the file using my DOS editor.
Yes, it is worth the trouble to use a good text editor with a great
spelling checker--something Microsoft has never been able to
create. Win-7 has made even opening a file using Notebook much
more of a pain in the ass. Sometimes I wish the designers at
Microsoft would just commit suicide.
