The effect of technology can be seen by noting: From 1600 to 1700 the increase was only about 10%, from 1700 to 1800 it was about 35%, and from 1800 to 1900 it was nearly 91% and from 1900 to 2000 itn increased by over 292% Look at data from table linked to bellow for 1950 to 2010, and projecions for 2010 to 2050.

Total Midyear Population for the World: 1950-2050

Is at: http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/idb/worldpop.php (The next paragraph is based on that data.)

The rate of growth peaked in 1961 and 1962 but the actual growth in numbers peaked in 1989. To the present we have never seen the population decline. I predict: as we run out of petroleum we will see a decline in world population well before 2050. Probably caused by: starvation, war, and freezing or over heating. It will happen. The planet cannot support these numbers without petroleum. Get the book: "The Long Emergency". Technology, based on the release of stored energy got us into this problem. Don't expect it to get us out of it!.
