Now we have seen the price of oil exceed $75 per barrel, it seems everybody is finger pointing. And everybody in government wants to give the impression they have the solution. Which of course is a lie. The problem is: There are too many people using too much petroleum, and the world supply is running out. The only solution is to live using less.

Economists are perhaps most troubled by the possibility that lawmakers will consider suspending the federal 18.4-cent-per-gallon gasoline tax. All that would do is raise demand and worsen the government deficit -- a lose-lose proposition, they said. Smith said $75 oil is "the best thing that could happen to the alternative-energy business" and is the greatest force for change in the market. He and other analysts said SUV sales already are declining, and they expect Americans to think more critically about the energy efficiency of their homes and the lengths of their commutes in the years ahead. But it may take years before changes in consumer behavior affect the market. "In the meantime, you as a consumer have three options," said Ebel. "You have car keys, light switches and a thermostat. Use them judiciously." |
Today nobody complains about paying $4 a cup for Coffee at Starbucks. Gasoline is far more valuable, and difficult to produce than a cup of coffee. And the world is running out of Petroleum, but we will never run out of coffee. Coffee is a renewable resource. Logically, Gasoline should cost more than coffee. There are 16 cups in a gallon, so a logical price for Gasoline should be in excess of $64 per gallon. Ultimately this will happen, and people will willingly drive slower and less. Flying and Home heating/cooling will become history; and farming will become costly. Food will be so expensive many will starve. Will fighting and pandemonium break out? Who knows?
On October 7, 2001 I started creating web pages about energy problems. Here are some links. I have updated them to have correct links and phone numbers. Unfortunately, at the time I did these I was not putting in the date I started the page. So the revision date does not really reflect when they were written.| Efficient Cars | Plants to Petroleum | Conservation | Solar Links | Calif. Power |
Later I will have links to the pages of others who are concerned about these problems.
Here are a couple links I just received from a friend, I haven't
checked them out yet.
