Just one look at my back yard, and I went and got my camera and took these photos around noon on 2005 May 21. I went out with a shovel and knocked them over and after they dried a bit I started my lawn mower and just chopped them up. I didn't try to "catch the leaves" I just let the chopped up stuff lay. Thought, I would just ignore the backyard for this summer.
This is my Hot Tub setting carpet covered cinder blocks.
You can see the water near the top. When I get in it runs over. At the far edge it runs into a rain gutter which carries to a garbage can. I have a submergible sump pump in the garbage can.
On the back of the chair you can see my U-tubes which I use to
syphon the water over side of the tub into the garbage can. I made
two different size U-tubes, out of 1½ and 2 inch PVC. The smaller
one is best. The larger one is too fast and runs the garbage can over.
I would have to use an even smaller one if I used fewer garden hoses
on the outlet of the pump. Most of the time I use three
sprinklers.
This photo is to the right of the previous one. In the center you can
see a strange contraption with a vertical pipe.
This is something I made years ago. It has a shower head, tilted up. I used this to wash out my Wet Suits after a SCUBA trip. I decided washing them in my shower was a good way to learn how to clean sand out of the drains.
It was from this I got the idea: I would have more warm water if it run through a lot more hose. Upshot was: "Run the water through about 180 feet of black 2-inch pipe".
The photos sort of join from left to right.
Against the fence you can see the black pipes. Just laying on the ground.
Last winter the rather large tree stump which is on the neighbor's
side of the fence fell over and broke a section out of the fence.
They are Chinese and he has never said anything about it. I have
other things I would rather do. So for the time being it is just
laying there.
You can see the ends of the black pipes. Unplanned, I made the pipes
in two sections and the tree fell between them.
In this photo you see the back of my house, with my set-on-top kayak;
and some sprinkler experiments. They work. But, I never use them!
It is hard to beet the old fashioned ones with just two holes and no
moving parts.
