  1. In San Jose, in 2009 I got internet service from Sonic.net and use a NETGEAR DGND3300 DSL Modem with an Ethernet connection to an iMac.
    2009 Sept 30 9AM My speeds were: Download 626 KBit/s, Upload 323 KBit/s, Connections 2857, Ping 159 ms.

I dropped Sonic because they persisted in charging me a fee for holding my email; but I never used their email and had nothing there. When I called I got some bastard at Sonic service who refused to stop the charge and gave me a run-around telling me I had to call their billing service. Yes, I called and talked to someone in their billing who did reverse the charges they had put on my VISA. But, it was/is too late for Sonic.

I now have DSL in San Jose from AT&T it is slow, similar to Sonic. I will check, and post, speeds later. Incidentally, what they call U-Verse, is nothing but marketing bullshit.

  2. In Quartzsite I get DSL service from: TDS the local phone company. Using an ActionTec 724 DSL modem.
    2010 Dec 6 2:44PM My speeds were: Download 5173 KBit/s, Upload 493 KBit/s, Connections 811, Ping 70 ms.
    2011 Oct 27 08:40 My seeds are: Download 5189 KBit/s, Upload 497 Kbit/s, Connections 906, Ping 81 ms.

  3. Since 2011 June 22 I have had Internet and telephone service in Clarkston, Utah from: Digis.net I am using a NETGEAR N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNDR4000

I have been very happy with their service, however when I checked Digis blogs, some people are unhappy because if one does too much down-loading Digis will cut the down-load speed in half. If this doesn't solve the problem they do it again, and again. This is "Throttling".

From the beginning Digis has been far faster than any DSL service I have had in either Quartzsite or San Jose. Unfortunately, I checked but did not write down the initial Digis speeds.

On July 20th a friend arrived and used my computer to scan Aviation Maps for several hours a day. The evening of July 23 downloading a map suddenly took drastically longer than it had before. I am quite certain Digis was putting a stop to the map downloading, from a single web site. I quickly checked the Down-load speed and it was about half what it had been before but "Connections" were zero!

I stopped all use of the internet for approximately 24 hours then checked the speeds:
2011 July 24 18:48 and got: Download 4765, Upload 1931, Connections 1365, and Ping of 33. Connections now much better than zero!

Digis, and for that matter all ISP's who use have limited facility for down-loads have to limit how much data any given subscriber down-loads. I don't know if they keep track of where the down-loaded data is coming from or not. But in my case the web site that provided the Aviation Maps will never be used on my internet connection again.
