Since the early 1990's I have had cell phone service from several different
companies:
- GTE Mobile Net
- Cellular One
- 360 Cellular
- Voice Stream
- AT & T Wireless
- Altel
- Sprint
- Verizon
- T-Mobile (Prepaid)
- Verizon (Prepaid)
The above is roughly in the order I tried them. Today, I would rate
"T-Mobile Prepaid" is a "Best Buy". Verizon probably has the most complete
coverage, but you pay for it both in dollars and having to deal with
them.
"360 Cellular and
Altel were in Las Vegas, and Voice Stream was in Utah; the rest are in
California. Brands of phones were:
- 2 Motorola
- 1 OKI Data
- 1 AT&T 6650 (Made by Nokia)
- 1 Qualcom
- 1 Sony
- 10~ Nokia's For many years I was loyal to Nokia, and have
and use one, but my main cell phone today is a Samsung--which also has
faults. I have tried to contact Nokia to suggest what I think they
are doing wrong, but as near as I can tell they think they are God and
don't want to hear from lowly customers. In many ways I would celebrate
if I heard Nokia had gone bankrupt.
- 1 LG
- 1 Samsung
- 1 Motorola (I dropped it in my hot tub)
- 3 Samsung (T-Mobile Prepaid)
- 1 Samsung (Verizon Prepaid)
The best phones, from the point of ease of use, was the AT & T and
early Nokia's. As time has gone by the phones have become smaller and
the battery life has increased; but for "usability" every Nokia phone is
worse than its' predecessor. OKI, Sony, and Erickson were bad enough
their name are no longer on cell phones; and Qualcom (who I believe made
the Sony) should try to make something else.
Unfortunately, today it is for all intent impossible to get a cell
phone without a color display. The problem is: color displays are hard
to see in the daylight, and they have to be illuminated which shortens
battery life. Thus, they all turn off the display except when the phone
is in use; hence you can't look at the phone to see the signal strength.
I wonder when, or if, the cell phone manufactures will realize: Voice
Communications is what a phone is far. Cameras, Electronic Games,
and PDA's are much better in the devices made for the purpose than a
contrived cell phone will every be.
I have other pages:
One about what I think the laws should be reguarding
cell phone features
and how to use a cell phone when driving.
Another about
VeriZon
who I am very unhappy with, and another
T-Mobile
I think has the best deal going. Click on the links for the details.
Currently, I have three cell phones: A Samsung X495 (a 408 area
code). I bought a Samsung SGH-T139 at Fry's and put the SIM card from
Nokia 6010 in it, (keeping the 435 area code).
Lastly, a Samsung SCH-U350 (435 area code on Verizon I bought in Shelby
Montana 2009 July 10 at Wal*Mart when I found out T-Mobile doesn't have
coverage there.) I am moderately happy with them given what is available
today; the first Samsung was bought through
T-Mobile on their Prepaid Plan.
