Getting a name registered for a web site. It is easy, and can be done before you have made any pages.
Then people can go to you site with something like: www.yourdomainname.com

I get my domain names from Godaddy.com They are relatively cheap, and you can register as many as you like. I have: LAFARR.COM, LAFARR.NET, LAFARR.ORG, LAFARR.INFO and LAFARR.BIZ, I registered them just so other people couldn't get them. I have to admit: I rather like being the only "LaFarr" in the world. I also registered: ZYVRA.ORG, ZYVRA.COM, WPQA.COM & MVQA.COM as well for other reasons.

Godaddy is as cheap as I have found. I like them. (Two friends in a little computer hobbyist club, I belong to, also use Godaddy.) But, Godaddy's own web pages seem as if they are designed to slow down even a fast connection. Godaddy's web pages would be a lot better if their people were forced to use a slow dial-up connection! Their prices and support are good enough I put up with their examples of: "How not to design a web site".

What you would need to do is pick a name you would like and then see if it is available. All this can be done at no cost at Godaddy's web site. (But, a broadband connection would be nice.)

Godaddy also sells web space, but you might as well use the free space most ISP's provide. After you have decided you are serious about a Web Page you may want to purchase web space. There are thousands of places selling web space, but my experience has been: many of them are hardly more than enthusiastic hobbyists who are great for a while then tire of it and simply go away.

It is rather frustrating to find your web site has vanished into thin air and there is no response from the company that was hosting your site. Disk space is cheap now days, and it doesn't cost me much at Godaddy. All that being said: Keep your .htm files just incase you have to reload them. Besides you will find yourself making changes.
