The Implanted markers, which are: "Beacon transponders (1.8 mm diameter and 8.5 mm in length). Each transponder contains a small ferrite core and copper coil which is hermetically sealed in a biocompatible glass capsule." I now have an information card I should "Carry at all times." The implants could be detected at airports, and may be of concern to other Doctors; they "will impact MR image acquisition".
The entire procedure was similar to what was done for the biopsies, except there were 12 samples taken, and only 3 markers implanted. Nothing really painful, but it is unpleasant to have the ultrasound probe (about the size of a broom handle--but not as long!) plus the needles with the implants--all in your butt. Side effects are the same: Possible blood in the urine and stool for a week or so; and to guard against bacteria being pushed into the blood, I have to take anti-biotic pills twice a day from the day before till two days after. Yeah, now at 4 PM I have the blood in both, but otherwise no discomfort.
Next is my appointment 2010 September 7 11 AM at "Northern California Prostate Cancer Center" where the radiation treatments will be given.
