There was more excitement today in town. We were driving around showing Gail's sister some of the new construction going on. We turned north at the Main Event to show her the new buildings. We were back there for about two minutes when we decided to turn around and go get some lunch. As we approached the stoplight by Burger King, a big truck trailer broke loose and rammed the corner of the metal building that sells tools and stuff. It just missed the cute $40,000 bronze statues of children and a dog playing on a log that sits out front. It went completely through the corner of the building and almost destroyed the entire building.
We talked to Steve Bennett a half hour later and he said he could repair the building for around $15,000 to $20,000. A huge wrecker showed up shortly after the accident and pulled the trailer out of the building but there is a HUGE hole in the building and you can see thousands of dollars worth of tools and things scattered everywhere inside! I don't see how they can secure the building for the night.
The owners are out of state for the summer. The trailer seemed to have some sort of heavy used mining equipment on it. It just broke free of the truck and crashed through the building. Traffic was still snarled after we came back an hour after lunch. I think the building would have to be replaced, it's so crumpled up and leaning to the northwest. It is a huge building about 50 by 100 feet. I don't see how Steve can repair it but he says he can if they want it repaired. Steve knew the truck driver that lost the trailer. I think he knows everyone! Steve was driving across the overpass in the process of moving into his new house on Tyson when he saw the accident happen. His new tire and brake store is now open.
Never a dull moment around here.
