Our town councilman, Walt Akin, tells me that even if the Isaiah 58 group pays for the property, there are still several ways to get out of approving their permits and licenses. They would have to build a 6 ft high solid fence around the entire 5 acres which would cost them $50,000 or more. There are several health department issues that they would have to address and update their kitchen facilities to the tune of around a hundred thousand dollars. They would have to clean out and haul off all the junk on the property which may cost as much as $100,000. They would have to update their water lines, sewer lines and electrical services to code at another big expense.

Walt says the P & Z will hit them with only one item at a time so that will drag out any approval process for a long time and lots of expense so maybe it will discourage the project and/or bleed them of lots of funds to meet codes and standards.

Walt feels fairly sure that the town can drive this group out of town with this course of action and delay tactics. Lets hope so. At least it sounds like a fairly good plan.
