Hi, everyone
We had a big thunderstorm yesterday afternoon. We had high winds and lots of lightning and thunder. One thunderclap was so loud that it shook our park model. It was VERY close. The rain was very heavy, with huge drops, but our rain gauge only showed a little over 1/4 of an inch. Water was running everywhere and the washes were running a little too. I think I need to move my rain gauge out into the open and get it out from under my mesquite tree.
The wind blew over a big 5th wheel trailer at Rice Ranch and a travel trailer behind Hardies across from Mc Donalds.
The elcetricity went off at 4:50PM yesterday afternoon and did not come back on until 4:40AM this morning. It was a very hot and muggy 12 hours with no A/C. We slept on the floor in the living room with the doors and windows open to let in some breeze. Thank God the rain cooled it off from 105 to 82 in about 10 minutes. It got back up to about 95 again before it leveled off and started dropping again for the night. We almost went to the motorhome and started the generator and the A/C but we stayed here.
I went riding on my moped to let the breeze cool me off and to look for rain and wind damage. I ran out of gas over by Steve Bennetts 6 acre estate. He let me park the moped there and he brought me home to get the special gas mixture I needed. It must have evaporated in the heat because I filled the tank when I got home from getting stopped for terrorizing the town at 15 MPH by the local undercover cop in his 1987 pickup.
I had a nice visit with Steve. He also removed about 30 trees from in front of his house and replanted them around the property. He said the last wind storm broke several of his trees completely in two and he had to remove them. His place looks very nice now. He has a nice lawn in front of his house and a clear view of the brick fench and the road. It was hard to see his house thru the trees before. It must have been very tricky to mow the lawn too.
Steve was in a great mood and seemed glad that he was slowing down and going to retire very soon. He assures me that he will fix the problems in the park soon.
I just heard from our son, Lyle, at Love's, that the reason the power was out was because two big power poles along Hwy 95 north of Quartzsite went down. He didn't know if it was from the wind or the lightning.
Clay's brother, Gary, lost his small tin sheds and his shade cover that he parked his car under during the last storm.
They have not started the new Walmart in Blythe yet. The big empty property (east) across from Love's truck stop now has a big sign saying that a new Days Inn will be built there soon. A new Terrible Herbst gas station is being built on the corner of Hwy 95 at the stop light in Parker. Not much else is happening here.
Today is clear and beautiful.
