- When you send an email you are cramming it down the throat of the
recipient(s) whether they want it or not. You are tying up their
computer and phone line while what you sent is downloading. In one
case for me this was over two hours.
After 30 minutes, I tried to stop it. I tried to stop it by:
- Clicking on the little blinking terminal at the bottom right of
the screen.
- Selecting Disconnect.
When I reconnected: Earlier emails and the offending one restarted
downloading again. I tried to send an email to my service provider, but
was unable to until the down-load completed. I could find no way to
stop this and get my computer and phone back in service, until it
finishes. Or even figure out where it was coming from, or if it was a
virus downloading.
There should be a way to stop an email download without it
restarting. I have been unable to find it.
- In my case: I am interested in what the sender writes and has
to say, or links he thinks I might find interesting.
I am not interested in:
- All the junk he can find to supports his political or religious views.
- Cute cartoons, pictures, or pages of Jokes. Google can provide
those when I want to see such.
- Commercial email greeting cards.
In general, I don't want Forwards or Attachments.
- Many, if not the vast majority of virus are sent via Email
Attachments.
It is not smart to even open unsolicitated Attachments. Simply
responding to a link "to get off the mailing list" will let the sender
know he has found a warm recipient. That usually means:
Sucker
- Complements of Microsoft, (and possibly Apple) the default seems to be to send email
twice: A plain text version, and an attachment which is nothing but the
main one in a fancier font; containing no additional information.
Under Outlook Express you can (and must if you want to send an email
to me) stop this by:
- Clicking "Tools" then on the drop down menu
- Selecting "Options" at the bottom
- Clicking the Tab "Send"
- Checking "Plain Text" instead of "HTML"
It is possible to accomplish the same on a MAC. When I am certain of
the details I will add it here.
- If you want to email me send it to: lafarr@zyvra.org but I will not get
it if it has an attachment.
