A Virus is nothing more than a program that gets installed and run from a connection to the outside world, usually the internet. Control of the computer has been given to a program by some program running in the computer, In my opinion control should never be given to any program coming from a communications port. But Windows does! Thanks to Microsoft Virus are possible in any computer running Windows.

Very bright people have figured our how Windows allows Microsoft to get their programs into your computer through your connection to the internet. Rather than criticize these people we should reward them highly, and fine Microsoft for "leaving the gates opened to such programs". Let me point out: the people who have found these Windows opened gates, can do anything that any program can do, once they get control. Examples could be:

Put a surprising or threatening message on your screen.
Simply hanging your computer -- causing it to go dead.
Putting something on, or deleting something from your hard drive. This can be anything from putting code in the boot area of the hard drive so it will get control whenever the computer is started. To simply erasing some or all files on the drive.
Search for anything on your computer and send it to whoever the writer of the program wants.
These program could "smoke" your computer. I mean literally doing hardware damage that would require major repair such as replacing the motherboard or motherboard repair, before you could get your computer to work. I bet you didn't even know that was possible???

Eliminating Virus

The only real way to eliminate virus is to not have any program in your computer that will pass control to code that comes in via the communications port. But, Microsoft and other software companies are reluctant to loose some of the power they have over computers running software they wrote and you bought.

These companies hide behind an "End User Licensing Agreement" they force you to agree to something which in essence puts a lot of legal restrictions on you, the user, and says these programs can do anything; and the company who created and sold you the program is not liable for anything their program does. This is insanity. Can you think of any other business that can sell you a product or service and not be responsible in any way for what they have charged you for, and even worse puts you and your property at risk to anybody in the world?

What these software companies have done is equivalent to putting a door in your house so anybody with a little smarts can get in and do whatever they may want. But, you have to agree not to look in that door or change anything; further, you must sign that they have no responsibility for the functioning of that door, or anything related to it!

My solution is simple:

Anybody who creates a virus should be rewarded with a tax free one million dollars.
The company that left "the gate opened" so that virus was possible should be fined three million dollars.
Need I explain why this would eliminate virus?

There will be many who will scream and complain about this solution besides Microsoft:

Network Associates, who make and sell the McAfee anti-virus software; and Symantec, who make and sell the Norton anti-virus software would loose most of their business.

One of these two companies is virtually forced on every PC user.

Have you ever wondered how it is: These two companies always know about and have a solution for every virus? Am I the only one who suspects that they are behind most of the virus?
